Time Management
One of the most difficult challenges in a self-directed, distance-learning program such as FNU is time management. The first step in planning your time is to develop a timeline.
Your timeline is a tool to help you stay on track, and should be mounted in a conspicuous place in your study area for reference. It serves as a reminder not just to you, but also to the people around you that this is a serious academic undertaking . And it also marks milestones of completion to share with your family.
For at least the first few months, keep track of how many hours per week you spend in actual study time. This will help ensure that you are really doing what you think you’re doing, and will help you and your Student Advisor gauge your progress.
You may realize after you’ve come home from Frontier Bound that your well-intentioned time plan is not working out as expected. Or, your personal circumstances may change as you progress through the program, requiring an adjustment of your timeline. In either case, your Student Advisor or DC will be happy to work with you to revise your goals or assist you to draw up a Learning Plan, as needed.
