How Frontier Works...

After attending Frontier Bound orientation session in Hyden, Kentucky, students return to their communities to study. The curriculum is designed in a modular format that students can complete in their communities. FNU courses are taught in eleven (11) week terms. All courses are designed in an asynchronous format which allows students great flexibility in designing their own study schedule. All courses are offered each term. Students can choose the number of credits to take based on their other life responsibilities. Student Advisors assist students in developing individualized timelines at Frontier Bound that will meet their specific needs.

Faculty provide guidance using a variety of modes such as computer forums, e-mail and telephone. Many assignments are designed to encourage interaction within the community in which the student lives. Interaction with the school community is fostered through our dynamic web portal. Support, explanations, and information are as close as the computer and phone line. After completing the majority of their didactic course work, students are ready to begin their clinical learning experience.

Clinical preceptors are sought within the student’s own community whenever possible, allowing students to learn in their home area. The goal is always to keep the student as close to their home as possible. At times, due to lack of appropriate clinical practice sites, students may be required to travel to a clinical site for part or all of their clinical experiences.
